For more than 10 years, the Fierst Family operating the Haunted Maze "Scare Away Hunger" has devoted their time and energy to passionately sharing a love for "Halloween" while advocating for the hungry in Minnesota, Missouri, and Virginia. Find out how you can contribute to the future of someone in need through donations of money and time. .
The easiest way to explain who are volunteers are is to look in a mirror. Our volunteers are made up of co-workers, neighbors, friends, family, members of the community, and students from surrounding schools. Pictured in this group are students from West Springfield High School, Lake Braddock Secondary School, Irving Middle School, and Alvey Elementary. The photo was taken on our last night of operation for the 2014 Halloween Season. In 2014 we had over 100 volunteers, collected nearly 2,000 lbs of food and $255.50 in cash donations.
Our selected charity for the past 2 year was ECHO - Ecumenical Community Helping Others located in Springfield, VA. At the time of our donation, they assist 1,600 client families and during the last fiscal year exceeded all previous records by distributing 220,000 lbs. of food, $260,000 in financial aid, and increased amounts of clothing, household items and school supplies. Additionally, they provide programs that include Holiday Food Baskets, Holiday Gift Shop, Rosetta Stone sessions, job programs, mentoring students, and enrichment bags for children.
While in Wentzville, MO our selected charity was Operation Food Search and more specifically their Operation Backpack. Each month, Operation Food Search distributes more than 2.75 million pounts of food and necessities to 250 community partners in 26 Missouri and Illinois counties and the City of St. Louis. Operation Food Search feeds approximately 190,000 people every single month - about a third of these recipients are children.

Our "Scare Away Hunger" Haunted Maze truly is a family affair. Eric Fierst is the creative director and mastermind behind the maze and props. Loan married into this chaos and provides management and marketing support while trying to keep Eric grounded. Our children, Blake and Brooke participate in all phases of the build out and event nights. Blake is one of the scarriest characters inside of the maze and Brooke can often be heard on over our sound system. Be sure to check out our "About Us" and "Photos" page.
